Which roof system is the best

The most important thing to know about roof systems is that they are all different and serve different purposes. There are many factors that go into selecting the right roof system for your home, such as the age, size, shape and location of your house.

Roofing materials vary in cost and durability so it's important to understand what you need before making a decision. The longevity of a specific type of roof will depend on the quality and thickness of the material used for construction.

A shingle style roof is best suited to homes with low-pitched roofs because this type of installation does not require any additional support structure.

A flat tile or metal panel style will be easier to install if you're building onto an existing pitched roof because these types can be installed directly onto rafters without adding any additional structural support; however, this type may not offer as much protection from water damage caused by heavy rainstorms or snow accumulation over time.

Metal Roof

Metal roofs are also commonly referred to as Tin Roofs and are very popular due to the lower cost, ease of installation and the ability to match colours and finishes to your taste. Colorbond roofs have been designed for Australian weather conditions and are practical and economical option.

Tiled Roof

The two most common tiled roofs are concrete and terracotta tiles. Both are long lasting, fire resistant, durable and UV resistant. Concrete does tend to absorb more water than terracotta and has a shorter lifespan but both make excellent coverings.

Shingle Roof

Shingle roofs are good, low cost,  low maintenance roof options that will need replacing in about 20 years. They are popular due to their cost to install and also to replace but tend to less effective in strong weather conditions. They are also unsuitable for flat roofs as they are more exposed than pitched roofs to the elements.

Slate Roof

As the most premium option, slate roofs are made from natural stone and are highly durable. Because it does not absorb much water, Slate is not very easy to break in cold conditions. They are very heavy and can even handle hail and other heavy debris. As it is fire proof, it is ideal also in high bushfire risk areas. Beautiful and strong, slate roofs can last up to 100 years.
